How it's calculated: your contribution goes in at the start of each month and earns interest every month, spread so that over a year it adds up to the rate you chose.

What is compound interest?
It's earning interest on interest. What your money earns is added to what you put in, and from then on it earns too. That's why the years matter so much.
Which rate should I use?
Whichever you want to try. Run it with two or three different rates: the more years, the further apart the results get.
